Oklahoma State Capitol
Oklahoma State Capitol Building is the seat of state government. It was built between 1914-1917, but its magnificent central dome was not completed until 2002. This classic Greco-Roman structure features an Indiana limestone exterior and a base of Oklahoma pink and black granite. Daily tours are offered by both guided and unguided guides. The campus is bustling with government business. The building is currently undergoing major restoration, which should be completed by March 2019. The Oklahoma State Capitol houses the government of the U.S. State of Oklahoma. It houses the Oklahoma Legislature as well as executive branch offices. It is located on Lincoln Boulevard in Oklahoma City. It covers 452,508 square foot. [2] This structure also includes a dome that was completed in 2002.
Guthrie, Oklahoma was Oklahoma’s first capital. However, it moved to Oklahoma City by 1910. The Oklahoma State Capitol was built in 1914. It was completed in 1917. It was originally used to house the Oklahoma Judiciary Branch. However, the state’s highest courts moved most of their operations in 2011 to the Oklahoma Judicial Center. The Capitol building still houses the Supreme Court Hearing Chamber.
